AP Chemistry Review

Many colleges require a high score on the AP® Chemistry exam for admission, and others require a pre-test to gain entrance. Mr. Moskaluk’s AP® Chemistry Review course is designed to help students achieve a high score on the AP® Chemistry exam by strengthening their chemistry knowledge, skills, and test-taking strategies as well as deepening their understanding of the chemistry topics so that they will be ready if a pre-test is required for admissions. The 10-week review course is a condensed version of Mr. Moskaluk’s full-year AP® Chemistry course in that it covers all the topics in a first-year college chemistry course. Former students have used Mr. Moskaluk’s materials as study aids in their college chemistry classes, and some have even used them to study for their MCATs. 

College chemistry courses move at a notoriously fast pace. Students without a strong chemistry background often wash out of their college chemistry courses. Also, many colleges use chemistry to weed students out of their STEM programs. Mr. Moskaluk’s AP Chemistry Review course will give you the resources and support you need to have a competitive advantage in your college chemistry course. The review course also includes a unit on Organic Chemistry to support future advanced course work in chemistry. 

Mr. Moskaluk has students every year who are taking AP® Chemistry in a brick-and-mortar or online school but are worried they aren’t being adequately prepared for the AP® exam and college chemistry. Mr. Moskaluk’s review course is designed so that these students can easily spot gaps in their knowledge of chemistry topics and efficiently learn the material to close those gaps. Mr. Moskaluk’s AP® Chemistry review class can also help students achieve a higher grade in their school’s AP® Chemistry class.  

Students who are exceptionally strong in high school chemistry and math sometimes decide to “take a shot” at the AP® Chemistry exam without having taken AP® Chemistry so that, if they achieve a high score, they can squeeze in an extra AP® score on their college application. Other students take the exam hoping to get credit for or place out of college chemistry. The AP® Program allows students to cancel AP® Exam scores so, if you are not happy with your score, the College Board will delete it permanently. If you retake the exam later, you will be ready to excel on the exam as you will already know the chemistry topics, exam format, and testing protocols. 

Students who try to self-study for the AP® Chemistry exam rarely do well. Many believe that they can achieve a high score by studying a college chemistry textbook. College chemistry textbooks have far more chemistry than is covered on the AP® exam, and the AP® exam has a few topics that are not covered in college chemistry textbooks. Also, the format of AP® Chemistry exam questions is not the same as questions in the back of a chemistry textbook. To be successful on the AP® Chemistry exam, you must study the specific topics in the College Board AP® Chemistry curriculum as well as gain practice answering AP® exam questions.
