A science course that does not include a lab component cannot use the AP® designation on a student's high school transcript.
I have developed a lab program with specially tailored labs that meet the College Board requirements for an AP® Chemistry course. My custom-designed labs allow students to perform both quantitative and qualitative experiments. Each lab has detailed explanations, step-by-step procedures, and a sample lab write-up.
All of my students keep a lab notebook following college protocols. Graphing programs and spreadsheets are used to analyze data. Each lab has an online assignment that instantly evaluates the student's work.
Students have two options for completing the labs.
Quality Science Labs has been the leading provider of science lab kits for homeschoolers, high schools, and colleges for over 16 years. Students are able to perform labs safely with micro amounts of chemicals while still getting a complete lab experience. Students performing live labs can purchase the QSL Advanced MicroChem Lab Kit directly from the supplier.
If you and a sibling are taking the course, you only need to purchase one lab kit. The QSL kit has enough materials to perform each lab more than once, so you can do the labs independently or work as a team. (If you decide to work as a team, you will need to purchase an extra pair of safety glasses since the lab kit only has one pair. Also, you must each have your own lab notebook.)
I recognize that some students might not be able to obtain a lab kit. Therefore, for each hands-on lab, I have created a matching virtual lab showing the complete lab and data collected thus allowing students to analyze the data, do their lab write-ups, and complete the online lab assignments. There is no fee for the virtual labs.
